Northgate Apartments is six studios on Starle Close, a cul-de-sac off Sturry Road on the Northgate side of Canterbury. There is no reception, no corridor of doors, no queue at breakfast. You get a key, a front door of your own, and a parking space outside it. Each studio is genuinely self-contained. A double bed, a shower room of your own, and a proper little kitchen along one wall — hob, extractor, microwave, toaster, kettle, fridge and sink, with a breakfast bar and two stools under the window. There is a flat-screen TV, wardrobe space, heating you control yourself and Wi-Fi throughout. Bed linen and towels are provided and the studio is cleaned before you arrive.
What a studio actually looks like
Just outside the walls, ten minutes from everything
Starle Close is a quiet residential cul-de-sac off Sturry Road, inside the Northgate ward and just outside the old city walls. It is lawn, hedges and low brick terraces rather than a main road, and the parking is on your doorstep. Walk out of the close and you are on Northgate in under ten minutes, at Sainsbury's on Kingsmead Road in about ten, and in the middle of the city in around twenty — the Marlowe Theatre at nineteen minutes, Canterbury Cathedral at twenty, the Westgate Towers at twenty. St Martin's Church and St Augustine's Abbey, the two other halves of Canterbury's World Heritage Site, are closer still at sixteen and seventeen minutes. Canterbury West station is a twenty-two-minute walk; Canterbury East is twenty-seven.
